Help Us Buy Kim Her Home in Guyana

Kim, Nicolas and Ricardo at a Hindu jhandi

Hello! If you're here you probably know either me (Brady) or Alicia and we thank you very much for taking a moment to take a look at this page. When I was living in Guyana with the Peace Coprs I made many special friends but Kim Sukhdeo was one of the most special. She became like a sister to me and we became Aunty Alicia and Uncle Brady to her two adorable boys, Ricardo and Nicolas.

Kim has not had many good breaks in her tough life. The father of her boys left her when they were just babies, never to be heard from again. Her only surviving family is her amazing 94 year old grandmother. Kim works hard to provide for Ricardo, Nicolas and Granny. The four of them live in an old house on Leguan Island, just a few houses away from where I lived for two years. The house they have made into their home was long abandoned and, as we have recently learned, is still legally owned by the government dating back to Guyana's several decades under a socialist government.

With the global recession on and the current government looking for ways to fill empty coffers, they have notified Kim that they will sell her the deed to her home for 1,500 USD, which I have determined, after talking to several people, to be a very fair price. Otherwise she, the boys and granny will become homeless.

Alicia and I have sent half the money to Kim as a down payment and we are hoping you might help us raise the other half by making a donation in any amount you can afford. We will make sure, of course, that every dollar you donate goes toward buying Kim's home.
